Daniel Sprong (born March 17, 1997) is a Dutch professional ice hockey right winger currently playing for the Seattle Kraken in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round (46th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft after two standout seasons with the Charlottetown Islanders in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Sprong debuted with the Penguins shortly after being drafted but eventually returned to the QMJHL to complete two additional seasons with the Islanders.

Contract
Daniel Sprong is under a one-year contract with the Seattle Kraken, valued at $975,000, carrying the same amount as his annual cap hit. The deal, signed on July 20, 2024, will run through the 2024-25 season, at which point Sprong will be 28 years old.

Trade
The Seattle Kraken have brought back a familiar face, acquiring forward Daniel Sprong from the Vancouver Canucks on Friday in exchange for future considerations.
The Dutch winger, known for his journeyman career, tallied a goal and three points in nine games with the Canucks, his sixth team since becoming a full-time NHL player in the 2018-19 season. Sprong has previously played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Washington Capitals, and Detroit Red Wings before rejoining the Kraken.
During his time with Detroit, Sprong notched an impressive 18 goals and 43 points. However, his most productive season came with the Kraken in 2022-23, when he achieved a career-high 21 goals and 46 points in 66 games. His breakout performance helped the Kraken become a playoff contender in just their second season, with 13 players reaching double-digit goals.
After missing the playoffs in 2023-24, the Kraken parted ways with head coach Dave Hakstol and brought in Dan Bylsma, formerly of the Penguins and Sabres. Sprong’s return is aimed at boosting the team’s secondary scoring, a pressing need for the struggling squad.
Currently ranked 21st in the league with an average of 2.79 goals per game, the Kraken (5-8-1) have scored half of their 40 goals through just four players: Jared McCann, Jordan Eberle, Brandon Montour, and Eeli Tolvanen.
