Daniel Joseph Ricciardo (/rɪkɑːrdoʊ/ “Ricardo”; born 1 July 1989) is an Italian-Australian [2] racing driver, currently competing in Formula One under the Australian flag for McLaren. He made his debut at the 2011 British Grand Prix with the HRT team as part of a deal with Red Bull Racing, for which he was test driving under his sister team Scuderia Toro Rosso. Ricciardo’s driver is number 3. He has won 8 Grand Prix in Formula One.

Daniel Ricciardo prepares to get behind the wheel of a NASCAR stock car at the Circuit of the Americas this weekend as McLaren CEO Zack Brown honors a bet he made with the Australian.
Brown offered his new recruit Ricciardo a drive for 2021 in Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on the condition that the ex-Renault driver scored a podium for McLaren this season.
Ricciardo went one better than him and led McLaren a couple of times at Monza ahead of teammate Lando Norris. This weekend, he receives his reward and will treat spectators to a display of a blue and yellow stock car ahead of the United States Grand Prix.

“Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s 1984 Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Get us that podium and the drive is all yours,” was Brown’s challenge after the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
And when Ricciardo acted, Brown tweeted: “A deal is a deal.”

Daniel Joseph Ricciardo was born on 1 July 1989 in Perth, Western Australia to Italian-Australian parents. His father, Giuseppe “Joe” Ricciardo, was born in Ficara (Mesina), but relocated with his family to Australia when he was only seven years old. Ricciardo’s Australian-born mother Grace’s parents were originally from Casigna, Calabria. Ricciardo also has a sister; Michelle. Growing up in Duncraig, one of Perth’s northern suburbs, Ricciardo’s earliest memories of motorsports were his father’s racing at the nearby Barbagallo Raceway in Wanneroo. He attended high school at Newman College.
Ricciardo pronounced his surname “Ricardo” rather than the Italian pronunciation “rit-chi-ardo”, which is commonly attributed to Australia and his family as he grew up. He is often referred to as the “honey badger” in reference to his racing style, explaining how, “It is considered the most fearless animal in the animal kingdom. When you look at it , so he seems quite cute and crazy, but as soon as someone crosses his territory in a way that he doesn’t like, he gets a little wild and he goes after anything – tiger, python – Goes – he turns very quickly, but he’s a good guy.” Growing up as a fan of NASCAR Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt, Ricciardo adopted the number 3 as his racing number in his honor.
Ricardo loves the band Alexisonfire. Ricciardo also supports the AFL’s West Coast Eagles and was the club’s number-one ticket holder in 2015 and 2016.
