Despite a stellar preseason, Jones was named the backup behind Eli Manning. Jones played his first regular season game on September 8, 2019, against the Dallas Cowboys in relief of Manning, where he completed 3-of-4 passes for 17 yards and lost a fumble as the Giants lost 35–17. On September 17, 2019, Jones was named the starter over Manning for the Week 3 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Giants got dealt two big injury blows early against Dallas in Week 5.

First, starting running back Saquon suffered an ankle injury that sidelined him for the rest of the game. Then, it was starting quarterback Daniel Jones, who took a nasty hit to the head on the goal line and came up wobbling afterward.

Concussion:

New York Giants coach Joe Judge told reporters Friday that Jones was a full participant in practice, and it “appears” the QB will be able to play after suffering a concussion in Week 5. Jones was officially removed from the injury report later Friday.

He had to be fully cleared by an independent neurologist to suit up against the Rams.

Jones suffered the concussion on a QB run just before halftime of the Giants’ 44-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
