Daniel Dye, a driver in the ARCA Racing Series and a senior at Father Lopez High School, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly punching another student in the groin during class, causing serious injury to the victim, Daytona Beach police said. Was sent to the hospital.
Dye, 18, was jailed on felony charges. Court records show he is out of the Volusia County Branch Jail on $2,500 bail.
The son of local car dealer Randy Dye, Daniels won the first ARCA race of his career last summer and attended a handful of events in 2020 for Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s current vice president of strategy and innovation.

According to court records, Dye was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and charged with a felony. He was released Tuesday evening from Volusia County (Fla.) jail after being posted on $2500 bond.
Florida law defines felony battery as actually and willfully touching or killing another person against the other person’s will; and cause extreme physical damage, permanent disability, or permanent disability.
According to a police report, Dye struck another student in the groin area in an incident at Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach, Fla.
GMS Racing issued the following statement: “GMS Racing is aware of the current situation surrounding Daniel Dye. The Daniels and Dye family are cooperating with local law enforcement. There will be no further comment on this subject until more information is available.”

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Daniel “Danny” A. Die Sr., 60, of Springfield, died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:55 a.m. at his home.
He was born on 23 June 1956 in Springfield to John R. “Jack” and Audrey M. Oldani Dye.
Survivors include a son of Springfield, Daniel A. Dye, Jr.; two grandchildren, Mason and Alyssa; Springfield’s mother, Audrey Dye; a sister, Mary Anne Carey of Springfield; Two brothers, David A. Dye and Duane A. “Bone” (Lori) Dye, both of Springfield; two nieces and a nephew: Maya and Mitch Dye, and Avril (RJ) Craig; and two nephews, Damien Crowder and Jason Webb.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Daniel was a member of St. Joseph’s Church. He retired as a plumber and union pipefitter from Steamfitters Local 137.
He enjoyed engine repairs, go karts and fireworks. He loved Halloween. He was an extremely Good Samaritan who helped those in need.
