Nick young:

Per Holmes, after Wednesday’s practice, Russell said, “Nothing [to] talk about,” as he walked past reporters. Holmes also reported the Lakers said Russell and Young will both address the media before Wednesday’s game against the Miami Heat.

According to Holmes and Stein, Russell can be heard on the video at one point asking Young, “You was 30 and she was 19?” with regard to a woman he met out one evening at a nightclub. The report also mentions that Russell can reportedly be heard asking, “What about Amber Rose?” before Young responded, “No, she knows my girl.”

Lakers:

“Just depends on how the game goes, if I’m mad or something,” Russell said. “I might be airing out some steam. If I didn’t like the rotation or something, I’d rather get my space and re-evaluate and try to stay locked into the game.”

Wednesday wasn’t the easiest game for Russell, who had six points on 3-for-9 shooting, so perhaps the flow of the game for him was causing the steam to rise.

The time away from the bench wasn’t about disengaging from the team, he said, but instead can be about needing to mentally regroup during tough moments.

Injury:

This is obviously great news for the Wolves, who were without Russell for the final two games of the regular season while he battled a non-COVID illness.

As a result, Russell may have some minor rust to shake off heading into Tuesday night, but the expectation is that he’ll return to his usual high-minute role in the backcourt alongside Patrick Beverley.

Russell had an up-and-down finish to the regular season, averaging 14.1 points, 6.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 threes per game over his final 10 appearances. He shot just 37.0 percent from the field and 26.6 percent from three during that stretch, however.
