In March 2009, Hooker made his professional mixed martial arts debut. Before to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, he fought largely in New Zealand, where he had a 10–4 record.

Makhachev’s original opponent Rafael Dos Anjos was forced to withdraw from the fight due to injury. Hooker is filling in for him.

Hooker didn’t arrive in Las Vegas until late Thursday night due to travel limitations and the waiting for a visa approval, but he still made weight and put on a great performance against Haqparast on the preliminary card.
When it was all said and done, the scores were 30-27, 30-27, and 30-26, with Hooker taking the win.
