The cook (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday’s exercise.

Cook’s return for the first practice of the week even in limited capacity shows he has a shot at surviving a second consecutive absence. Last week he was considered a game-time decision, though he revealed on Wednesday that he knew he would not be able to play when he woke up on the morning of Sunday’s final win over Seattle. Cook is feeling much better with a few extra days off, as he also said he looks forward to suiting up against Brown this weekend. If not, Alexander Mattison will fill in as Minnesota’s lead again.Vikings’ Dalvin Cooke: Back to practice

Cook (ankle) returned to full pad practice on Wednesday, Eric Smith of the Vikings’ official site reports.

While head coach Mike Zimmer was not optimistic about his ongoing health earlier Wednesday, Cook was more upbeat when he spoke with the media, noting before practice that he had confidence in the Vikings’ training staff and that he had confidence in Sunday’s game. Hoping for a comeback. Brown, according to Chris Tomson of St. Paul’s Pioneer Press. The running back has now taken a major step toward that goal, although he will be listed as a limited participant on Wednesday instead of a full one. Cook didn’t practice at all last week, and was eventually kicked out in a game-day decision before a 30-17 win over Seattle. Vikings have Alexander Mattison to fill in as lead again if Cook misses another week with his ankle sprain

As the week progressed, confidence that Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook would play in Sunday’s home game against the Seattle Seahawks after suffering a sprained ankle against the Arizona Cardinals decreased.

And on Sunday, Cook was officially inactive for the game.

Cook, who was listed as questionable, missed practice all week because of the injury. He was getting hours of treatment throughout the day on Saturday in an attempt to make it back, but it had been considered “unlikely” he would play, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Cook was injured with 9:52 remaining in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s 34-33 loss to the Cardinals when he was tackled low by defensive end J.J. Watt. He was momentarily replaced by backup running back Alexander Mattison but returned for the Vikings’ final two series.

Cook finished with 131 yards on 22 carries.

Sunday will mark the first game with fans at U.S. Bank Stadium in 636 days.

Mike Zimmer seemed confident on Friday that Dalvin Cook would have a chance to play the Seahawks in a Vikings Week 3 matchup. He said that Cook was “doing much better” when dealing with an ankle sprain, and thought that Cook would be able to play despite being out of practice for most of the week.

“If you’re asking about Dalvin, I think Dalvin can [sport],” Zimmer said according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

However, things changed over the weekend. Now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Cook is “unlikely” to follow suit for Minnesota against Seattle.

Cook suffered an ankle injury during the Vikings’ 34-33 loss to the Cardinals in Week 2. He was clearly trapped in the second half and struggled to make much headway after the injury. Therefore, the Vikings are playing safe with Cook, who missed 21 games due to injury during the first four seasons of his NFL career.

This is no big surprise; The Vikings hinted at this possibility by signing running back Amir Abdullah from their practice squad on Saturday. He was added to serve as the backup behind Cook’s handcuffs, Alexander Mattison, who is expected to walk back to Minnesota.

Mattison has appeared in 28 games for the Vikings with two starts since he was a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has averaged 4.5 yards per carry during his career and 87.5 yards and one touchdown per game in his two starts, both of which came last year when Cook was out of action.

Mattison has just four carries for 13 yards this season, but he will see a much heavier workload against the Seahawks. Cook averaged 25 touches per game in his first two outings of the season. Mattison got more than 20 touches because of this.
