Trade rumors

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA, but a trade deadline shakeup is drawing near. Luka Doncic’s max extension with Dorian Finney-Smith and Jalen Brunson as they face an off-season cap crunch. Mavs would have to go deeper into luxury tax to re-sign both free agents. Trade rumors have been hot and heavy this season, with the team reportedly exploring the market for Dorian Finn-Smith. Dallas is proving that they can beat any team, so they will look for upgrades any time they move on the deadline. Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report released his latest rumors on January 24, where he noted that the Mavericks have been “linked” to Celtics guard Marcus Smart. Here’s a look at the latest.

Despite having won 10 of their last 11 matches, it still looks like this team has yet to put it all together for a period. Their defense remains strong but their output on the offensive end has been disappointing to watch from game to game. They have played well enough to win but they have to take collective action if they hope to clash with the best teams in the league. Tonight presents a litmus test even without DeAndre Ayton, and an opportunity for the Mavs to prove they can play up to their level of competition. They have beaten some good teams but this is a chance to beat a true contender. In their last few matchups, the Mavs have kept things close, but were unable to stop CP3 down the stretch. We don’t have an answer for that in pick and roll. He can get to where he wants whenever he wants and that mid-range jumper is lethal.
