Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Duck Prescott isn’t ruling out a return from a thumb injury in Week 4 when his team takes on the Washington Commanders.
Prescott told ESPN’s Lisa Salters that he “could be back in a couple of weeks—and I’m counting this as one of them,” adding that Week 4 is a possibility:
ESPN’s Todd Archer previously reported that Prescott was scheduled to have his stitches removed from his surgically repaired thumb before Monday night’s matchup at the New York Giants.
According to that report, “His return to action is based on the strength of his grip, but he is making steady progress.”

On September 11, in the fourth quarter of the Cowboys–Buccaneers Week 1 matchup, Prescott’s hand collided with Bucks pass rusher Shaq Barrett while attempting a pass, and Prescott immediately knew something was amiss.
Prescott told Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy “it’s broken”, and after the game, McCarthy was clearly distraught by the news that Prescott’s thumb was in bad shape.
After the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed the media, saying that Prescott would undergo hand surgery and would miss several weeks.
Jones told reporters, “He has a thumb injury above his joint, here’s going to need surgery.
Post will be out for a while.” “Of course when you add that, eventually, to lose him for several weeks. We’ll see more how many weeks that can be.”
