Coy Randall Gibbs (December 9, 1972 – November 6, 2022) was an American NASCAR driver, assistant coach for the Washington Redskins, and co-owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. He was the son of Joe Gibbs, a five-time NASCAR Cup Series championship winning owner and Pro Football Hall of Famer. Originally from Fayetteville, Arkansas, Gibbs lived in Cornelius, North Carolina, with his wife Heather and their four children, sons Ty, Case and Jett, and daughter Elle.

According to a release from Joe Gibbs Racing, Coy Gibbs, son of NASCAR and NFL Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, died in his sleep.

Coy Gibbs was 49 years old. He was vice chairman and chief operating officer at JGR and was the father of Ty Gibbs, who won the 2022 Xfinity Series championship on Saturday by winning the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, hours before his father’s death.

“It is with great sadness that Joe Gibbs Racing has confirmed that Coy Gibbs (co-owner) went to live with God in his sleep last night,” the team said in its statement. “The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers and calls for privacy at this time.”

Coy Gibbs moved into a larger executive role at JGR after his older brother, JD, had to vacate the role of team president after battling a degenerative neurological disease. JD Gibbs passed away on January 11, 2019 at the age of 49.

Coy Gibbs also started and runs Joe Gibbs Racing’s motocross team, the winner and championship contender in Supercross.
