Enamo has completed its redemption story, avenging last year’s second-place finish to take out the 2022 Cox plate at Mooney Valley Racecourse.

After being beaten by State of Rest at last year’s Cox’s Plate, the James Cummings-trained Enamo beat I Am Thunderstruck, El Bodegon and Zaki to win the $5 million race.

Jockey James McDonald, after leading Zaki in the first half of the race, timed his run to perfection before coming home with Enamo’s wet sails.

Despite the eventual success, Cummings admitted that he had hiccups during the trip in preparation for the Cox plate.

“There were moments that would lead one less man to the bottle,” he said.

“But he’s managed by an extremely skilled team. I have some incredibly talented and passionate people behind him who help me look good.”
