Berenguer’s goal in the 89th minute led to a surprise 1–0 win in the quarter-finals, as Marcelino’s side achieved another unexpected result after their last-16 win over Barcelona. It was a deserved success for the hosts, who had been the strong side for most of the competition, and made up for a loss to Real in the Spanish Super Cup final and most recently in two La Liga matches.
