Cooper Robert Rush (born November 21, 1993), is an American football quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football in Central Michigan, and was signed as a free agent by the Cowboys in 2017.

Starts
Rush made his first appearance in an NFL game on October 22, 2017 against the 49ers in the middle of a 40–10 blowout. He completed 1 of 3 passes for 2 yards.
For the next two seasons, Rush remained the backup, but did not attempt a pass. He was bitten by the Cowboys in 2020 after signing Andy Dalton.

It didn’t take long for Rush to return to Dallas. He re-signed with the Cowboys’ practice squad in November 2020.
He did not appear in a game for the Cowboys that year; Dalton took over starting duties with Prescott for the season. But he got a chance to start the next year.
In Week 8, Prescott was ruled out with a calf injury, making Rush a starter against the Vikings. The Cowboys were not able to be very aggressive during the first half. Rush threw his first career interception, and the offense scored just one field goal as Dallas went down 10–3. But in the third game of the second half, Rush found Cedric Wilson for a 73-yard touchdown pass, his first career passing touchdown. Both teams scored field goals in the third and the Vikings took a 2:51 lead 16-13. Rush fielded the Cowboys, completed 6 of 9 passes for 75 yards and toucheddown Amari Cooper to give the Cowboys the lead and a final 20-16 win.

There is a strong possibility that Rush could continue to be Dak Prescott’s backup even before this season, but it all depends on how well he performs during these games to relieve Prescott.

From all the interactions seen in the public eye, it appears that they have a solid relationship. Keep this in mind when discussing the backup quarterback position because again, Dak Prescott has a little more pull with the front office than most.

The Giants claimed the Cooper Rush of Waivers. After Rush claimed the Giants and Rush drew up a new contract worth $1.25 million for the season. $150,000 guaranteed, including a $100,000 signing bonus. Rush was a banned free agent.
According to Spottrack, Cooper Rush is under a one-year, $358,200 contract with the Dallas Cowboys. His debut in the NFL came in Week 8 of the 2021 season, handling the injured Prescott against the Vikings. That day, Rush threw 325 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception as Dallas won 20-16 after a game-winning drive in the final minute.
