Connor Andrew McDavid (born January 13, 1997) is a Canadian professional ice hockey center and captain of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Oilers selected him with the first overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Widely considered the best player in the world, McDavid’s offensive dominance has drawn comparisons to players such as Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky.

Conn Smythe
Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP on Monday night despite Edmonton’s loss to Florida in the Stanley Cup Finals, capping one of the greatest postseason performances in NHL history.
McDavid, who was held without a point in Game 7 on Monday night, led all scorers with 42 points, five shy of the record of 47 set by Wayne Gretzky in 1985.
“It’s unbelievable,” teammate Dylan Holloway said before the game. “There is no shortage of words. He is so amazing. He brings it every day, and plays best when we need him most. “He’s obviously a special player and a special person as well.”
After not scoring in the first three games against Florida (but still leading the team with three assists), McDavid turned the series around by doing something that no other player in history, including Gretzky, has done. He had four points in consecutive games in the finals to save the Oilers from elimination.
MVP
Connor McDavid shrugged when asked about winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This was not the trophy he was looking to win. The Edmonton Oilers captain’s voice trembled after Monday’s devastating 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals at Amerant Bank Arena.
“Obviously, it’s an honor to have your name on the trophy,” McDavid said.
Despite not recording a point in the final two games of the Finals, McDavid was the obvious choice for Conn Smythe. He became the sixth player on a losing team to win it, and the first skater to win it since Reggie Leach with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1976, despite being defeated by the Montreal Canadiens.
