Conor Hayward is a 23-year-old American football player born on January 22, 1999, in Duluth, Georgia. Hayward played college football at Michigan State, and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft.

He is the son of former Falcons running back Craig “Ironhead” Hayward and brother of Steelers defensive end Cam Hayward.
“I didn’t see him when I was in the Senior Bowl or anything like that, but growing up I’ll see the highlights of him,” Hayward said on Wednesday. “He was a bruised back, an injury blocker and a guy who had really good legs for his size.”
Ironhead Hayward died in 2006. He was only 39 years old. He played 11 seasons in the NFL and played for the Falcons from 1994 to ’96. He had a career high at Rushing Yards (1,083) with the Falcons in 1995.
Conor Hayward wouldn’t mind running back in the NFL like his father. He was replaced at a tight end by the Spartans last season.

Michigan State tight end Connor Hayward is an admirable story. He transitioned from a running back position to playing tight end for the Spartans in 2021 to help the team and optimize his playing time. The effort paid dividends, with a career-high reception (35), receiving yards (326) and touchdowns (2) in 12 games played. Hayward doesn’t have high-end physical equipment and “ugly wins” in his role at times, but nonetheless, he has consistently won his reps and was instrumental in Michigan State’s explosive offense. Projecting him further, I think Hayward needs to find a home where he can continue to “win ugly”, playing on special teams and doing a lot of the dirty work in an offensive system, Who wants to connect the blocked surface. Both run and pass game with unconventional alignment. I love the story and Hayward is a highly competitive player on the field, making him a late investment in the draft for the ability to fulfill a handful of roles and play special teams.
