Who won the game
Tampa Bay Lightning won the game. The Tampa Bay Lightning survived the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals with a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 5 on Friday, making the series 3-2. The Defending Champs will host Game 6.
“The team championship is the hardest thing for an athlete to do,” Lightning captain Steven Stamkos told Sportsnet after the game. “It’s not easy.”
Lightning hit first, Jan Ratta found the net at 15:23 in the first period. Colorado went without a score through the first frame, giving Tampa Bay the lead at the first half of the series in Denver.
Valery Nichushkin, a pending free agent, scored his fourth goal of the championship series to level the game at 5:07 in the second period. Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov responded quickly in the power play at 8:10, giving her team a 2-1 lead for the remainder of the period.
Colorado’s Black Capricorn, the newly crowned Norris Trophy winner, scored 2:31 in the second period to level the game at 2-2. It was Makar’s third goal of the series and eighth after the season.
Tampa Bay advanced to their third of the finals and 11th of the 2022 playoffs, with a goal from Ondrej Palt in the third at 13:38. The result Lightning held on to the victory.
Game 6
Darren Helm scored in the third period with 5.6 seconds remaining, and the Colorado Avalanche eliminated the St. Louis Blues in a 3-2 win in Game 6 of the Western Conference Second Round at Enterprise Center on Friday.
Helm won it on a slap shot from the left circle for his first goal of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
“The three of us were working hard at the nets and I was just running behind,” Helm said. “The pass bounced off the wall, I just wanted to get the puck over the net, and it found its way.”
Logan O’Connor sent a pass from the left wall board to the right wall, and Helm came in and stepped into a shot that went through traffic and Ville Husso’s glove.
