Many people believed that Colin Kaepernick should stand during the national anthem, and the compromise he made was not enough for him.

It became the source of bitter debate, which culminated in 2017, when then-President Donald Trump called anyone kneeling during the national anthem a “son of a bitch.”

The San Francisco 49ers did not renew Colin Kaepernick’s contract before the 2017 season, apparently because new coach Kyle Shanahan felt he would not fit his offense.

He went the entire offseason without signing anyone, and he filed a complaint against the league for conspiring to stop him from signing.

The complaint was withdrawn after a confidential settlement in 2019. Since then, Colin Kaepernick has not played in the NFL.

The former quarterback-activist hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016 and didn’t have a sterling season back then. However, he wants to play football again. Despite his lack of playing time, he could represent an upgrade to the Browns’ backup position.

One of the biggest issues with signing Kaepernick is the PR it will bring. A lot of positive and negative PR for any team will come with it. The civil rights activist has many haters and supporters.

However, even the negative PR Kaepernick won’t be as bad as the negative PR the team got for trading Watson. He is accused of assaulting 24 women, yet Brown signed him for a massive extension.

The Raiders surprised the NFL world by bringing Colin Kaepernick in for a workout on Wednesday.

Kaepernick, a former starter for the 49ers, hasn’t played an NFL game since New Year’s Day in 2017. He hasn’t even been on the roster since leaving San Francisco on March 6 of that year.

During his 49ers career, Kaepernick posted a 28-30 record as a starter. He started his career with a score of 25–14 and went on to go a couple deep playoffs before struggling with the 49ers during his final two seasons with the team.

While Kaepernick has had some problems with his accuracy – he only has a completion percentage of 59.8 – he has thrown 72 touchdowns compared to 30 interceptions. And as a sprinter, he averaged a total of 2,300 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 6.1 yards per carry during his career.

Signs

The Seattle Seahawks have signed quarterback Colin Kaepernick for financial reasons, at least for now.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the Seahawks and Kaepernick met last week when they were “separated over money.”

Since becoming a free agent in March after pulling out of his deal with the San Francisco 49ers, Kaepernick’s only trip with the team was in Seattle on May 24.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll met with reporters on Friday and was asked why the team had not signed Kaepernick.

“He’s a starter in this league,” he said, per Fox Sports’ Andre Vergara. “We have a starter, but he is a starter in this league and I can’t imagine anyone will give him a chance to play.”
