Weightman captained his school side at Haileybury, where he was coached by AFL Hall of Famer Matthew Lloyd. He also played for the Dandenong Stingrays in the NAB League, and was selected to play for Vic Country in the AFL Under 18 Championships. He was born to his parents, Rob Weightman and Nicole Weighman. Weightman grew up at his house in Pakenham, in Victoria’s south-east kicking a stack of footballs. He kicked until he got them through the ring 40 meters away.
