Wrestlemania entrance
One of the biggest secrets that went into WrestleMania 38 was the identity of Seth Rollins’ opponent, and all Vince McMahon would say was his choice and that Rollins did better. It finally became clear to everyone when the lights went out in the arena and that trademark musical hit, and everyone in the arena lost their mind when Cody Rhodes branded himself as not only a rival to Rollins but also WWE’s latest. also appeared as a signature. Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 on Saturday night, returning to the promotion he had made famous nearly six years ago.
During that time, Rhodes wrestled all over the world and was integral to the founding of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), a rival wrestling promotion run by Tony Khan. Rhodes was a top star onscreen and an executive vice president offscreen at AEW, but left the company in February 2022 after failing to land a new contract.
In an interview with Variety in the days before WrestleMania, Rhodes said that his dream is still to do what his father – the legendary Dusty Rhodes – never did. He didn’t say it out loud for fear of being taken as a joke, but Rhodes has his eye on the WWE Championship. Dusty fought against superstar Billy Graham in 1977 at Madison Square Garden for the title, which was the WWWF title at the time, but never won it.
Interview
When Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 on Saturday night, Variety was publishing a new interview with him. Rhodes told Variety that there was a “really overwhelming feeling” as she prepared to return to the company she left six years ago. He is returning more confident than ever in his abilities.
“I told Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard and Nick Khan — this is a very small group of individuals — I told them what I really believed in and that I was the best wrestler in the world,” Rhodes told Variety. “And to go further with it, I don’t think there’s really a close second. But with that said, the opportunity to prove it exists now, and that’s what I’m most excited about.”
Cody Rhodes and his wife Brandi broke up with AEW earlier this year. Rhodes was the company’s founding executive vice president, but he says it was time to move on.
“I chose to keep quiet about my departure from AEW and I’m going to have my say on that,” Rhodes said. “There’s no shoot interviews. There’s no nefarious story that’s being told. These were all different theories and none of it is true. I mean, there were things about money and creative control. Those facts And it’s been a very tough two months when the reality is that it was just time.
“It was a personal matter and we could not pursue it,” Rhodes continued. “I have nothing but respect for Matt [Jackson], Nick [Jackson] and Kenny [Omega]. I’m on the side of Tony Khan. He’ll be named in the history books as a man who’s made a difference to AEW helped control and support this whole choice and revolution that was made, but for me, it was time to move on. I get one chance at my dream, I get another chance at that. And you really Can leave no stone unturned in this.”
