Rhodes rekindled his career outside of WWE, becoming a star for Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. In 2019, AEW launched with Kodi as one of the faces of the promotion. AEW, which is owned by Tony Khan, has been WWE’s most important competition since WCW went out of business in 2001.

SI’s Justin Barrasso reported after Rhodes left AEW that a major reason for his exit was “losing all booking responsibilities”.

In an interview with Variety about his return to WWE, Rhodes said that his dream is to do what his father never did- win the WWE Championship.

Rhodes also addressed the circumstances of his departure from AEW.

“I chose to keep quiet about my departure from AEW and I am going to have my say on that. No shoot is interview. There is no nefarious story that is being told. These were all different theories and none of them are true,” Rhodes told Variety. “I mean, there were things about money and creative control. They were printed as fact and it’s been a very hard two months to see, when the reality is that it was just time. It was a private matter and we got away with it. Couldn’t move forward.

After all the anticipation, Seth Rollins’ WrestleMania opponent was made official and he was none other than Cody Rhodes. As mentioned by Vince McMahon, he will have to wait in the ring to see who he will face at WrestleMania. And wait he did, because he would eventually find out who his rival was.

Fans were not disappointed as it was Rhodes who returned to WWE after six years. While there were a few hiccups in between, Cody Rhodes would use the wrestling legend’s move as a part of the finishing sequence.

Seth Rollins graced Rhodes’s grand entrance with great views and laughed as he listened to the theme song to confirm who his opponent was. It was a big comeback six years later, and Rhodes returned with the theme song he’s been using for the past few years, and it was confirmed that he would be The American Nightmare — the same character he had when he left AEW.

Both the superstars will wrestle for much longer than expected. While a shorter match might have been more impressive, they would have the longest match of the night as they went into a quick match that lasted about 22 minutes.

Rhodes would win after taking out Pedigree and hitting Cross Rhodes three times with The Bionic Elbow – his father Dusty Rhodes’ signature move.

The former AEW Executive Vice President returned to WWE during one night of WrestleMania 38 on Saturday. Rhodes defeated Rollins to win the match after Seth Rollins appeared as the mystery opponent.

Rhodes was introduced as “The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes”. He entered his “Kingdom” theme music which he also used in AEW.

In the weeks before WrestleMania, Rollins was involved in a storyline where he repeatedly failed to secure a match on the show’s card. This led to the announcement that Rollins would face an opponent of the likes of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

The speculation about whether the 36-year-old would return to WWE began when he and his wife, Brandi Rhodes, announced this February that they were leaving AEW. Cody and Brandi Rhodes were founding members of AEW and worked for promotion as both wrestlers and officials.

Is in wwe

Cody Rhodes has crossed the line back in WWE. The former AEW Executive Vice President and a founding member of that company made good on significant speculation, appearing as the opponent of Vince McMahon’s selection against Seth Rollins at Night 1 of WrestleMania 38.

Rhodes, who recently stepped down as an EVP and performer for AEW, received a raucous applause from AT .

Rhodes and Rollins put on an exciting, physical contest that would clash for the match of the night. “The American Nightmare” bore the brunt of the damage, with visible swelling on his forehead and lots of redness around his body. At the start of the contest, Rhodes briefly demonstrated the ways of Stardust, a figurative shedding of the skin of his much-discredited gimmick before Rhodes left for WWE.
