Mike Krzyzewski, commonly known by his nickname ‘Coach K’, has been a longtime head coach at Duke University and is one of the most respected coaches in all of college basketball. He has also contributed to the winning of several Olympic gold medals for USA Basketball and is an influential figure for many of the sport’s best players of this generation.

Coach Kay’s 20-year-old grandson Michael Savarino is also a Duke player, earning a scholarship in 2021 after 2 seasons as a walk-on. This season, Savarino checked a game and pulled out a three-pointer for the Blue Devils. Cameras kept a close eye on Coach Kay, and his deadpan reaction was shared on Instagram by Kik.

Additionally, his own player, Paolo Banchero, is among a handful of players considered to be “at the forefront” of the award. Don’t you think Duke might be flapping some feathers in the locker room, given that his head coach isn’t actively supporting his own player?

Regardless, Armando Bacot is the ACC Player of the Year. He’s put together a tremendous season, and after his big performance in Durham, Junior Big Man should be the overwhelming favorite to bring home the prize at the end of the season.

It was bad enough that the Tar Heels lost their last home game to Coach K. As he retires from coaching, let’s grant him this wish by naming Bacot the ACC Player of the Year. It’s just right!

It was a few days ago, but the Alabama football team made sure they attended the birthday celebrations for Nick Saban’s 70th birthday, before the players were allowed to go home for a brief break over the goodbye weekend.

The Alabama head coach’s birthday actually falls on a Sunday, but because it falls on the weekend of the Crimson Tide this year, the team celebrated on a Thursday. (Last year, Alabama beat Mississippi State 41-0 on Saban’s 69th birthday.)
