Michael William Krzyzewski (born February 13, 1947) is an American former college basketball coach. He served as head coach at Duke University from 1980 to 2022, during which he led the Blue Devils to five national titles, 13 Final Four, 15 ACC Tournament Championships, and 13 ACC regular season titles. Among men’s college basketball coaches, only UCLA’s John Wooden has won more NCAA championships, with a total of ten. Krzyzewski is widely regarded as one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time.

Crying jordan
Mike Krzyzewski was hired at Duke prior to the 1980–81 season. Coincidentally, a top high school player named Michael Jordan was being recruited in the same year.
And, as the story goes, Jordan, a North Carolina native, chose Duke’s rival UNC and began his college career in 1981.
Several letters from coach Kay before his final home game at Cameroon Indoor on Saturday have gone viral, and now a letter that the longtime Blue Devils coach sent Jordan in 1980 is going viral.
This is not the first time this letter has appeared on the Internet. However, what is important this time around is the context of knowing how Coach Kay sent letters throughout his 42-year career at Duke. And, this letter to MJ happened in Durham in their first season.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski has many things to say about Saturday night, whether it’s coaching decisions or other elements of how their Last Four loss to UNC came to an end.
He also wants his postgame interview back.
When people watched the interview, Coach K felt some heat and thought he had thrown Mark Williams under the bus.
Williams missed two major free throws in the final minute of the game with the Blue Devils trailing by one. Instead of tying up or taking the lead, Duke watched as Caleb Love downed a three-pointer and made it a four-point game into the next possession. They never got well.
“We want to hit our free throws,” Coach Kay said candidly before dancing around the participation of one particular player. “Mark, not being able to… he was never in the game…”
Immediately, Twitter followed the head coach for naming the player and bringing up the free throw.
Krzyzewski emphasized that a game doesn’t win or lose a game, but that’s not quite the fate of the name drop he had in earlier interviews.
The head coach may not have intended to throw his player under the bus. The way he chose to express himself was whether he liked it or not.

The great coach, who had a ton of his former players in the game, celebrated game after game on the court where he won so many games and built one of the best college basketball programs of all time.
But do you know what happened before that celebration? We got to see a lot of unhappy Duke fans at the end of the game and then even in the 20-minute break between the final whistle and Coach K’s celebration.

Krzyzewski, who turned 58 on February 13, fell to the floor during the second time of the game, with the Blue Devils leading 15-12 with 111/2 minutes remaining in the first half. After pleading with official Larry Rose that guard Daniel Ewing had been fouled, Krzyzewski fell and lay on his side for a few seconds. The coaches helped him and gave instructions to his players before returning to the field.
Krzyzewski’s wife, Mickey, reached the floor from her seat in the stands and spoke with the trainers at the end of the bench. Krzyzewski, who has led the Blue Devils to three national championships and made 10 appearances in the Final Four, including last season, said doctors checked his blood pressure at halftime. After the game, he called the episode a “minor” incident.
“When you get up really early, sometimes you get light-headed,” Krzywski said. “In my 30 years of coaching, this has happened a lot, but this year it hasn’t. Usually, your feet are under you and you have a good base under you. . . . I didn’t have my feet under me. . I felt like a boy who threw the fight. It was like a sucker punch.”
When Krzyzewski was back on his feet, he turned to official Reginald Kofer and began to argue foul again before walking into the duke’s herd. After the time was up, Krzyzewski drank the water and patted his forehead with a towel several times.
“I felt like a chump,” Krzywski said. “Like someone punched me in the air and I pass out. I’m going to the floor and I’m thinking, ‘What an idiot,’ and I know I’m going to get it from my daughters and my wife I am. I have to deal with this forever.”
