CJ Stander

Christiaan Johan Stander is a South Africa-born rugby union player, he was born on 5 April 1990 and represents Ireland after qualifying through residency and can play either as a flanker or number 8. He also played for Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup between 2010 and 2012 and for the Bulls in Super Rugby in 2012. He shifed to Irish province Munster in 2012 and made his debut for Ireland in 2016. Contract

Stander has signed a new three-year contract with the IRFU in December 2017, due to this deal we will see him with Munster until at least June 2021.

Age

Stander is 30 years old, he was born on 5 April 1990. He went to Blanco Primary School, where he began playing rugby at the age of nine, playing as a fly-half. He then went to Hoër Landbouskool Oakdale, where he shifted into the number eight position at the age of 14.

Salary

Stander started with Munster at a base salary of € 230,000, Stander started receiving test match appearance fees after his Ireland debut. That honor gave him an extra € 30,000 bump. From that base annual salary of € 230,000, we understand that the union’s first proposal was € 280,000.

Standeris married to Jean-Marié Neethling, she is the sister of South African olympic gold medalist Ryk Neethling. Their daughter, Everli, was born in August 2019. His brother, Janneman Stander, is a rugby union player in South Africa for the SWD Eagles. In May 2017, the Mayor of Limerick, Kieran O’Hanlon, made Stander the city’s inaugural honorary international ambassador.
