HOUSTON – Houston Rockets big man Christian Wood attended his first MLB game on Wednesday evening. Wood threw the first pitch inside Minute Maid Park against the Seattle Mariners before the start of the Houston Astros’ home competition.
With the 2022 NBA Draft 15 days away, Wood’s name has floated around the NBA’s rumor mill. But there’s a chance Wood could stay in Houston longer than expected.
Wood, speaking to the media, revealed that he has held contract talks with the Rockets and expects talks to continue throughout the summer.
“We’ve had a conversation,” Wood said. “It’s something we can talk about later in the summer, but we’ll have to see.”

Trade
According to Shams Charania, the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to trade the number 26 overall pick to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Christian Wood in the 2022 NBA Draft, Boban Marjanovic, Trey Burke, Marques Chris and Sterling Brown.
This trade draft won’t be completed until night, due to the fact that the Mavericks give the New York Knicks a top-10 protected pick in 2023. The “Stepian Rule” – which you can read more about here – prevents teams from being without first-round picks in consecutive seasons. This means the Mavericks would move to number 26 for the Rockets, then trade that player as part of the trade.
Wood, who has been with the Rockets since 2020, averaged 17.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and one block per game, shooting 51 percent off the ground and 39 percent from 3-point land. He’s in the final year of a three-year, $41 million deal, and the business will be expandable six months after completion, if the Mavericks wants to go down that route.
