Christian Jackson McCaffrey (born June 7, 1996) is an American football free agent who plays for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Stanford and was drafted eighth overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2017 NFL Draft. As a sophomore in 2015, McCaffrey was named the AP College Football Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He holds the NCAA record for most all-purpose yards in a season with 3,864. McCaffrey holds numerous NFL and Panthers franchise records and is one of three players to record 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season, also occurring in 2019.

The MVP of the 49ers offense left the field early in Sunday’s loss to the Browns.

Christian McCaffrey has an oblique/rib injury and the 49ers don’t yet know how serious it is. McCaffrey suffered an injury early in the third quarter, went to the sideline, came back for a drive, appeared to aggravate the injury, then went to the locker room and left the game for good. He finished the afternoon with 43 rushing yards on 11 carries, along with 3 catches for 9 yards and 1 touchdown.
