Chris Jones is back with the Kansas City Chiefs effective immediately. The team announced that Jones agreed to a new one-year contract with the Chiefs, ending his long-held absence from the entire preseason and the first game of the regular season.

In the deal, Jones received several incentives to earn more money in 2023 (according to ESPN). Jones was initially in the final year of his contract, earning a base salary of $19.5 million – the final year of a four-year, $80 million contract that began in 2020.

“Chris is an elite player in this league and over the last seven years he has truly developed into a leader on our team,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said in a statement. “He has been instrumental in our success and Super Bowl championship and keeping him in a Chiefs uniform was a priority for us.

Now he has a new contract. The Kansas City Chiefs confirmed reports Monday afternoon that they have signed a one-year deal with Jones. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the deal does not include a new year and includes several incentives that could add to Jones’ 2023 earnings.
