The second half of the 2022 NASCAR regular season begins with its longest race of the year. The Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway will be a test of endurance for the sport’s new Next Gen chassis, a 400-lap race in a crown jewel event for the Cup Series.

Sunday’s race will also serve as another test of how much the new car can fix aerodynamic problems on these 1.5-mile ovals. Charlotte’s competition has eroded in recent years, with cars unable to turn side-to-side or pass while a driver exits the front. Racing here got so bad that Charlotte abandoned one of her dates in favor of the infield road course. The success of its ROVAL has created a modern phenomenon that has seen other tracks, such as Indianapolis, begin using these elective courses.

Sunday night’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway started in front of Denny Hamlin and ended in front of Denny Hamlin.

What happened in the midst of disobedient faith. And a driver who claimed to thrive in the chaos proved to be a man of his word.

Hamlin won the longest race in NASCAR history—619.5 miles—in two overtime, beating Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch by 0.014 seconds to the finish line.

With the win – the second of this season and the 48th of his career – Hamlin has now won trophies in all three NASCAR crown-jewel races: the Daytona 500, the Coca-Cola 600 and the Southern 500. Kevin Harvick is the only other active driver to have held all three titles.

Sports Casting noted that NASCAR drivers typically take 40% to 45% of the winnings, while the team gets the rest.
