Charlie Capalbo Strong was formed in 2017 by (mostly) Fairfield Prep hockey team moms to support Charlie Capalbo’s first battle with cancer. Charlie has since fought cancer twice (non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and leukemia) and is currently fighting his third.

Obituary:
A routine test in February revealed that Capalbo was fighting cancer for a fourth time and leukemia for a third. An MRI “indicated a faster progression of disease than anyone expected,” a Facebook update said, and he had been treated in Boston since.
Charlie Capalbo, the Fairfield man whose multiple cancer fights inspired the community and the hockey world near and far, died Sunday. He was 23.
Death Cause:
On Friday, the former goalie headed back to his home in Fairfield, in remission now for the third time in four years, or “the ultimate hat trick” as those rallying around him have dubbed it.
Capalbo’s aunt Rebecca Jarit shared the news in a Facebook post. Family friend John McCormick confirmed the news. McCormick organized a GoFundMe page that has raised more than $500,000 since 2017, as well as a welcome home parade this past December.
