Leclerc was forced to retire from last Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, while Ferrari led the race after a failure in its power unit confirmed it was left “beyond repair”.

It was the latest reliability setback for Leclerc at a difficult period for Leclerc, which saw him retire even while leading in Spain due to a problem on his power unit, which cost Ferrari a potential grid penalty.

Ahead of Friday’s practice for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, the FIA confirmed that Ferrari had taken a new engine, the MGU-H, MGU-K, and control electronics within its season allocation.

But after the conclusion of FP2, a second FIA document confirmed that Leclerc had picked up another new control electronics, his third of the year.

As it exceeds the season limit of the two control electronics, it has triggered the 10-place grid drop that Leclerc will take on Sunday.

Prior to the weekend the primary concern was with Leclerc’s turbocharger, when the new one introduced in Azerbaijan was wrecked by a power unit failure. However, it still has it usable within its season pool, meaning no changes have been needed as of now.
