Charles Hamelin OLY (born April 14, 1984) is a Canadian retired short track speed skater. In a competitive career spanning nearly twenty years on the international circuit, Hamelin has participated in five Winter Olympic Games (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022) and won six Olympic medals, including a national-best of four gold medals. Competing in all distances, he won thirty-eight medals at the World Championships, including fourteen gold medals, and also led Canada to five world relay titles. Hamelin’s partner at the time, fellow speed skater Marianne Saint-Gellas, was also present at the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Games. Their relationship was a major story at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, where Saint-Gellais won silver in the women’s 500 m and women’s 3000 m relay. Their kiss was widely reported after Hamelin’s victory in the 500 meters. In 2010, Hello! Canada magazine named Saint-Gellas and Hamelin on their 50 “Most Beautiful in Canada” list. Hamlin made his World Junior Championships debut in 2002, finishing fourth in the 500 meters and helping the relay team win a silver medal.
