Catch
The Dallas Cowboys made one of the night’s most well-received picks in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, landing former Oklahoma superstar wide receiver CD Lamb with the 17th overall pick.
Lamb was the top receiver on many analysts’ draft boards, but slipped slightly after Henry Rugs III and Jerry Judy were selected in 13th and 15th places respectively. Our Steven Ruiz gave the Cowboys an “A” grade on the pick, writing that the receiver was not the position Dallas required, with Lamb poised to become a major threat in an already dangerous offense.
Lamb’s choice made a splash on social media – and so did the live shot of his home draft party. With someone on the phone the cameras cut to Lamb, and his girlfriend, Crimson Rose, grabbed a second phone with a call coming in. Before she could answer, Lamb held back the phone, and Twitter went wild, speculating. In his first non-sponsored tweet as a cowboy, Lamb asked fans to remain calm.
Phone
After Lamb was voted 17th overall by the Dallas Cowboys, cameras showed him on the phone at his home. His girlfriend, Crimson Rose, proceeded to pick up a second phone, which was in Lamb’s other hand, only to snatch it back from him.
The video quickly went viral, leading Lamb to ask fans to “calm down”.
Contract
On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver agreed to a 3-year, $71.6 million contract extension. It is the latest in massive contract extensions for wide receivers, as Samuel is the 11th receiver to sign an extension worth $20 million or more per year.
Dallas’ two division rivals are part of the trend, as Commanders Terry McLaurin and Eagles A.J. Brown is on that list.
With Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s rookie contract reaching his third year, what do these extensions mean for him?
Well, that means he has a big bag of cash in his future.
If the lamb continues to move upward, he will be paid the same amount as Samuel. Last season, Lamb scored his first Pro Bowl after recording 79 catches for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns. He did it as a secondary option, which Lamb won’t have this season.
College
As a true freshman in Oklahoma in 2017, he caught a pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield, who would go on to win the Heisman Trophy. He played in all 14 games, posting 46 receptions (tied for second for freshman) for 807 yards (tied for school freshman record) and seven touchdowns (tied by school freshman record). He set the school freshman single-game record with nine receptions for 147 receiving yards and tied the school freshman single-game mark with two touchdown catches against Texas Tech. He received the Freshman All-American honor by ESPN.
As a sophomore in 2018, his starting quarterback was Kyler Murray, who would also win the Heisman Trophy. Lamb was a significant contributor to the Sooners 12-2 record and playoff appearance. He played in all 14 games with 13 starts, caught 65 passes for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns (leading the team). He was also the team’s punt returner, recording 17 returns for 218 yards and a 12.8-yard average (second in the Big 12). He recorded five 100-yard receiving games. Lamb and Marquis Brown became the first wide receiver tandem in school history to record a 1,000-yard receiving season in a single year. He set a career-high with 167 receiving yards over six receptions and scored one touchdown in a 39–27 win against Texas in the Big 12 Championship. He had a career-high eight receptions and one touchdown for 109 yards against the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in the college football playoff semifinals at the 2018 Orange Bowl.
