The similarity between these two is not just in their first name. Both of these gunmen were not highly recruited from high school and became upper class. They also have the desirable traits of a quarterback, but they can be wild and mistake-prone. Strong has a good hand and pushes the ball down the field as well as anyone. He has impressive accuracy down the field, which is something Wentz was good at during his peak with the Eagles. Strong is a lot more accurate than Wentz came out of college, but Wentz did a better job of avoiding pockets than Strong. Strong isn’t that great of an athlete, but can still excel at a pro level.

Scouting report

Strong had an early-stage promotion in the 2022 NFL Draft cycle. Now, looks like he’ll be more than a 2 day pick. At his peak, he was usually in the first round of talks. And given his arm talent compared to the rest of the class, you’d think he’d be a mainstay in the top 32 picks. However, there isn’t much certainty in the quarterback group of the 2022 NFL Draft, and that applies to Strong. Strong is undoubtedly talent. He’s not the same mobile threat his competitors are, but in a league where inches matter, he has the arm strength and velocity to fit the ball into windows that other QBs can’t.

Strong is a prototypical pocket passer with marginal athleticism. He is not a threat to his feet and often looks uncomfortable when running with the ball in the open field. Given the ‘pocket passer’ label to which he is attributed, and it is understandable why we estimate his 40 time will be between 4.9 and 5.0. Simply put, he is unlikely to be a threat to extend out-of-pocket plays in the NFL.
