Vows fight

Canelo Alvarez: Vows fight| Record loss| Record draws

Shael ‘Canelo’ Alvarez took a breath and stood on his feet Thursday afternoon as he prepared for his latest face-off with Gennady Golovkin at his final press conference in Las Vegas. Two more long days and nights will pass before their bitter rivalry reaches its peak in the third fight. Alvarez, who said earlier this week that he was sick of the snooping that goes along with professional boxing, had the same old questions.

He crossed the stage with disdain for the study and reached the place where Golovkin was waiting for him. These are two of the greatest warriors of the century and this trilogy has been going on for years. Golovkin, and most boxing pundits and fans, believed he won his first bout in September 2017—only for it, controversially, to turn out to be a draw. The rematch, exactly a year later, ended in a narrow points victory for Canelo. They were both memorable contests but Golovkin turns 40 this year and Alvarez is eight years younger than him.

Canelo Alvarez has had two draws in his career. The first draw came against Jorge Juárez in the Mexican’s fifth professional fight.

Jorge Juárez is a Mexican fighter with a below average record of eight wins, 27 losses and three draws. The highlight of Juárez’s career, however, was his fight against Canelo lvarez, coming in at the current pound-for-pound best rank.

The fight was a split decision draw with scores of 37–39, 39–37 and 38–38. Jorge Juárez, now retired, works as an assistant at a gym in Tijuana, Mexico.
