Cameron Smith is an Australian professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour and is the current Open champion. He has won six times on the PGA Tour, including the 2022 Players Championship and the 2022 Open Championship. He was also runner-up in the 2020 Masters Tournament.

While the whole of St. Andrews was following Rory McIlroy, Cameron Smith, a group ahead, strung together a run of five birdies in a row to leap to the top of the leaderboard through 14 holes. An hour or so later, Smith’s name was being carved into the Claret Jug.

In Rounds 1 and 2, Smith needed just 28 putts to navigate the Old Course‘s tricky greens. In Round 3, that number ballooned to 35.
