Cameron Smith, who won the British Open in St Andrews with a final round 64, is apparently headed to the LIV Golf Invitational Series with fellow Australian Mark Leishman after the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Another Australian golfer, Cameron Percy, told RSN Radio Australia in Melbourne that “unfortunately, yes, they are gone,” and that the details have already been done.

Smith appeared at a scheduled press conference at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Tuesday and when asked about the report, he said: “My goal here is to win the FedEx Cup playoffs. That’s all I am here.”

“If I have anything to say about the PGA Tour or LIV, it will come from Cameron Smith, not Cameron Percy. I’m a man of my word and whenever you guys need to know anything, it’s what I said Will go.”

A LIV Golf representative would not comment on the radio interview and Bud Martin, an agent for both Smith and Leishman, could not be reached.

The next LIV Golf Invitational Series event is scheduled for September 2-4, the week after the Tour Championship.

Did join liv golf

The ongoing battle between the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf Series will reportedly see the world’s No.2-ranked golfer on the switch side.

Australian golfer Cameron Smith, following victory at the 2022 Open Championship in St Andrews, will play in the remainder of this year’s PGA Tour event before accepting a $100 million offer to join LIV.

That’s at least according to fellow Australian and PGA Tour member Cameron Percy.

“Unfortunate, yes, they are gone,” Percy told RSN radio in Australia on Tuesday.

Smith has not made any official commitments to LIV and said after his victory at St Andrews in July that his only concern in 2022 was “winning the golf tournament.”

“I just won the British Open, and you’re asking about that?” He told reporters after the 2022 Open Championship when asked about his alleged connection to the LIV tour.

According to the Telegraph’s Tom Morgan, Cameron Smith is reportedly the latest to join LIV Golf after signing a $100 million deal with the organization.

The 28-year-old is coming off a win at The Open, equaling 20 strokes to overtake Cameron Young and Rory McIlroy.

After winning his first major title, TMZ Sports reported that Smith was “close to a deal” with LIV Golf. Uncertainty remained even after he avoided asking questions about the move in July.

“I just won the British Open, and you’re asking about that?” Smith told reporters. “I guess it’s not great. … I don’t know, mate. My team around me is worried about all those things. I’m here to win the golf tournament.”
