The former superstar quarterback who once won the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player Award and led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50, is in Panthers Black and Blue again. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Newton signed a one-year deal with the team worth up to $10 million, which includes $4.5 million in full guarantees and a $1.5 million roster bonus.
The reunion was set in motion by Panthers coach Matt Roulette, who reached out to Newton earlier in the week to assess his interest in returning to Carolina.
“He said yes out loud,” said Roulette.
Panthers General Scott Fitterer later confirmed that Newton had passed his physical and officially signed his contract.
“I always admired the competitive athlete,” Fitterer said, per the Charlotte Observer. “But really meeting him today, this guy is all about the team. He was a really impressive guy. He’s coming to help us. He thinks he can get us to the top.”
Newton met with team executives on Thursday morning to finalize his contract with the franchise, which had picked him for the first time overall over a decade ago. The veteran quarterback spent the preseason and all of the 2020 season with the New England Patriots following his departure from Carolina after the 2019 campaign.
Carolina needed QB help after an injury to Sam Darnold, a torn scapula that landed a former first-round pick on injured reserve. Darnold has had a poor game over the past five weeks, and injury hastened Carolina’s decision to shift center.
Roulette didn’t rule out Newton’s readiness to play in Week 10 against the Cardinals – PJ Walker is set to start with the backing of Matt Barkley – but admitted the Panthers will probably knock him out sooner than later.
What team is on
Cam Newton has had a career spanning over a decade, mostly with the Carolina Panthers. Starting his NFL journey in 2011, he was the face of the Panthers until 2020, switching teams and playing one season for the New England Patriots.
The Panthers didn’t lose faith in their former QB and saw him start a few games last season.
Panthers fans can’t wait to watch their favorite QB play this season. There is a lot of confusion among fantasy football players about whether to keep Newton on their fantasy roster. Where is Cam Newton now? Does he have a roster seat in the 2022 NFL?
Let’s go deeper and learn all about Cam Newton’s 2022 season. Plus, later in this article, fantasy football lovers will find out whether Newton should be in their 2022 fantasy football draft.

Signed with saints
While there is no concrete indication that Newton will sign with the NFC team, reports of the veteran quarterback signing for the Saints refuse to go away. The team was reportedly interested in bringing the quarterback to New Orleans after Jamis Winston went down with a threatening ACL injury.
Considering how poorly the Saints have played this season with Winston and Andy Dalton with a 3-6 record, rumors have been swirling about Newton and the Saints.
So, could the Saints turn to the former NFL MVP as an answer to their current problems? Maybe, but just rumours at this stage. Like last year, nothing else happened. But as they say, without fire there is no smoke.
Currently a free agent, the prospect of the Saints turning to Newton as their savior is intriguing. The 33-year-old hasn’t played any football this season, so he wants to come in and play immediately.
I see every Sunday that 10 quarterbacks play with a more pecked hand than Cam Newton.
If the Saints wait a few weeks, the season is already halfway through, and it’s not viable for Newton to add a few more games to “get the game ready”.
Cam Newton started doing this 10 years ago and y’all said he didn’t take football serious 🧐 https://t.co/bCyqPd7uTO
