Ridley made a total of $3,900 in six different bets including or on the Falcons game. There were five bets involving the Falcons’ moneyline, and an in-game wager of $1,300 on the Falcons’ team that was placed during the second half of a 21–14 victory by Atlanta on November 28. Bets involving all six Falcons were classified as losses.

Parley was titled with a $300, 11-leg bet on NFL games on the morning of November 28. At odds of 481/1, the bet would have paid out over $144,000 if it were successful.

Ridley made the bet during the period November 23–28, at a time when the receiver was away from the team on the non-football illness (NFI) list. He needed a break from football to focus on his mental health, he wrote in an October 31 statement.

As a result of the league’s findings that it violated its gambling policy, which Ridley has acknowledged, the NFL on Monday indefinitely suspended the 27-year-old former first-round pick. The suspension lasts at least until the conclusion of the 2022 NFL season.

What did bet

This gamble could cost him $11 million.

A few days later, Ridley, who was on the list of a non-football-related illness, tried to place another bet and his activity was flagged off by UK-based tech platform, Hard Rock and Genius Sports, which play Provides by-play statistics and sports betting and media companies data for the NFL, NBA, NCAA, FIFA, EPL and dozens of other leagues.

The Integrity Services arm of Genius, which oversees the betting markets at hundreds of thousands of sporting events, alerted the NFL that one of their players broke the league’s cardinal rule: don’t bet on football. And last week, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Ridley for at least the 2022 season, meaning he would forfeit his multimillion-dollar salary.

“The process worked,” says Brian McCarthy, a spokesman for the NFL, explaining that the avoidance of gambling by players and team personnel is one of the reasons the league signed Genius Sports in April 2021. “The integrity of the game is important to the health of the NFL.”
