Dagger
In one of the most epic games in recent memory, North Carolina defeated Duke 81–77 in the last four to advance to the national championship. With the win, Duke’s coach Mike Krzyzewski ended his career with a loss to the school’s bitter rival, while Hubert Davis punched his ticket to a national title game during his first year as head coach. Caleb Love’s 3-pointer dagger cooled the game and sent Coach Kay and the Blue Devils packing.
North Carolina will meet Kansas on Monday night for the title, but the instant classic was all we wanted to talk about Saturday night. Love led with 28 points, while RJ Davis added 18 points and was one of four players to score in double digits.
In the first half, both the teams went back and forth after a poor start of a few minutes. But from there, the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels found better offensive momentum and Duke took a 37-34 lead at the break.

Love hit a deep three on 7-foot-1 Duke center Mark Williams, which put Carolina up 78-74, with less than 25 seconds left in the two teams’ historic Final Four matchup on April 2.
It was not a game-winner. The Blue Devils still had a chance and kept it close until Trevor Keeles missed the three-point mark.
But Love’s shot will be the enduring image of that game and probably the entire 2022 tournament.
“It’s everything to me,” Love said of the shot via ESPN.
The sophomore guard averaged 15.7 points during the regular season. He hit 37.1% of his 6.5 three-point attempts per game.
