On November 19, 2019, I went to a tattoo parlor to get my first tattoo done. I wanted to pay tribute to my son who I can no longer share with the world. I wanted a conversation starter so I could tell people who Caleb is when they asked me about it. I thought having his name in permanent ink on my skin might make him feel closer to me, but it painfully made his death all the more real. Going through some of his excerpts, I found his first magazine when he was five years old. He would say what he wanted to write and I would write it for him and then he would sign his name. I hadn’t seen this magazine in 12 years, so it was very emotional to read it. When I saw his name written in his younger five-year-old’s handwriting, I knew I wanted the tattoo, and I had to put on “I love you more” because it’s something Caleb always told me.

The first tattoo would be the Gator tattoo on his left forearm. He dedicated this ink to the University of Florida, which had a gator symbol from the 1900s.
