Caleb Jarrod Huntley (born September 15, 1998) is an American football running back for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Ball State and was signed by the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

One of the Atlanta Falcons’ biggest needs for 2021 was to run back. The team parted ways with Todd Gurley, Ito Smith and Brian Hill adding Mike Davis and Corderell Patterson to the mix, leaving room for more talent. Moving into the 2021 NFL draft, many expected the team to select a prospect, but instead they added two adrift free agents to the position group.

One of them was the former Ball State University running back Caleb Huntley. At 5’10, 229 pounds, Huntley packs a powerful punch. Currently, he has the ninth-highest running yards in ball state history with 2,465 yards and 10 career 100-yard rushing games, and now he will bring that physicality to the Falcons.

Huntley was added to the Falcons’ practice squad, but saw his first NFL action when he was promoted to the active game day roster in Week 2 versus the Los Angeles Rams, when he contributed a carry for three yards. His coming-out party came in Week 4 against the Cleveland Browns, when Huntley, again rising above the practice team, gained the attention of the NFL-watching world with 10 carries, 56 yards and a touchdown in Atlanta’s 23–20 victory. 

Hometown

Huntley, 24 and an Atlanta native, didn’t know then that he would be called up by the Falcons twice this season and — after a breakout of a 10-carry, 56-yard, one-touchdown performance on Sunday — finally activated the roster. Then he was just trying to take care of his family.

“I knew the check would stop coming in, but the money was still going to leave my account,” Huntley said. “So I had to do something to keep everything in balance.”
