Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez was shooting a man who allegedly molested a 4-year-old relative of a mixed martial arts fighter when he was arrested for attempted murder, according to newly released court documents Was.

One person was injured in Monday’s shootings in the South Bay, but it was not the man who allegedly abused Velasquez’s young relative.

Gilroy’s 39-year-old Velasquez was formally indicted on Wednesday with 10 counts of attempted murder and multiple gun assault charges in connection with an alleged act of retaliation. She did not file a petition and her court date continued till March 7. He is being kept in custody without bail.

He is being accused of firing his .40-caliber handgun at Harry Goulart—who is accused of molesting a child—and hitting the truck that held Goulart. Goulart’s mother and stepfather were also in the truck.

“What he did put the public at risk,” said Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Aaron French. “Driving on the highway and carrying a firearm is extremely dangerous to other people and human life.”

Prosecutors said Velasquez fired his weapons seven times.

Goulart’s stepfather was shot twice and is expected to survive.

WWE’s Cane Velasquez Experiment is over after just two matches with the company. In the latest edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio [subscription required]”, Dave Meltzer reports that the former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion was released last week as part of WWE’s staffing cuts. The cuts were a part of the promotion’s plan to tackle the financial impacts of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Velasquez first worked with WWE in July 2018, training briefly at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. He will return to the UFC in February 2019, losing a fight to Francis Nganou before making his professional wrestling debut for Mexico-based promotion AAA in August. After two impressive appearances in six-man tag matches for AAA, rumors began to swirl that both WWE and AEW were interested in signing the former MMA star. The Battle of Nganou was the first of a new four-fight deal signed by Velasquez. He pulled out of the UFC’s USADA drug testing program with his move to WWE, so should he decide to return to the UFC, he would have to re-enter the testing pool.

In the October 2019 debut edition of WWE’s SmackDown on Fox, Velasquez debuted as the backup for Rey Mysterio, who was feuding with Brock Lesnar at the time. Velasquez dominated Lesnar at the UFC Octagon in 2010 to win his first UFC title. After defeating Lesnar in his surprise debut, the two were linked for Velasquez’s first WWE match, the two men meeting at the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia later that month. Lesnar would secure a submission victory in a match that lasted more than two minutes.
