Byron Buxton’s injury history is extensive, and it appears he may have suffered another injury on Friday.

The Twins centerfielder poked a pop fly double to left field between two Red Sox players, but as Buxton slid into second base, it was clear something felt wrong. He appeared to go foot-first, putting his weight on his bent left leg. But as he crossed base, Buxton sensed something had gone wrong.

He slapped the ground with his hand before jumping a few times and running under his own power. The Twins later announced it was pain in their right knee, but did not give a timetable for their return.

Over the past few seasons, Buxton has suffered multiple injuries: a fractured left arm from hit-by-pitch, strained right hip while running base, left shoulder problem from hitting an outfield wall in Miami, and a variety of other injuries. Waist, thumb, big toe, migraine and wrist problem.

It looks like the season in which 7-year veteran outfielder Byron Buxton is finally putting it all together for Minnesota. The multi-tool player has never lived up to his offensive ability in the eyes of most baseball fans. He’s fast, he has strength, but his wicked web game has kept him in the league. Winning a Platinum Glove is no joke.

Two games isn’t a season make, but after homing in back-to-back games to start the 2021 season, Buxton has certainly built up a fan base of respected baseball voices.

“Now he has power over his game,” said Joel Sherman on MLB Network after Buxton’s clutch jacks. “The only thing that was missing last year was the patience behind the plate. I think he did walk once or twice last season. If he never strolls and powers you up and probably has the best defense in the game at centerfield, that combination makes him incredibly valuable. Being healthy and able to achieve something else on the ground turns him into an MVP candidate.”

On Opening Day, Buxton blasted a 465-foot moon from the scoreboard. It was a “look at me now” flex that raised a few eyebrows.
