The Indiana Pacers are trading safe 2023 second-round picks for Domantas Sabonis, Jeremy Lamb, Justin Holiday and the Sacramento Kings, Tyrese Halliburton, Buddy Heald and Tristan Thompson, CBS Sports NBA insider Bill Reiter confirmed. Both sides were heavily featured in trade rumors of late, and now, they are helping each other shuffle the decks two days before the deadline.

The Kings have long wanted Sabonis, but rumors of a possible deal involving D’Aaron Fox were denied. It was widely reported that the Kings were planning to build around Fox rather than trade with him, but apparently, their other top young guard at Halliburton was finally available. In Sabonis, Kings takes down a two-time All-Star who represents Fox’s best hope as a real co-star.

The NBA 2K22 ratings list has seen a four-way tie for first place, with LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durand and Stephen Curry all sharing a 96 OVR according to the game’s default roster.

Buddy Hield had a breakout of the 2018-19 season for the Sacramento Kings, and people are starting to notice.

On the heels of his single-season franchise record of 278 3-pointers, Heald has been given a 90 rating by the creators of NBA 2K20 for his 3-point shooting.

Trade rumors

For the Pacers, trading Sabonis means breaking his long-standing partnership with Miles Turner. Indiana can now move on with Turner at center as their long-term substitute and a new backcourt with Halliburton and Heald to go it alone with Chris Duarte and Malcolm Brogdon. With Turner still injured, Indiana has taken a step back this season, but has positioned itself well to return to the playoff race a year from now.

Pacers and Kings have the same target. Sacramento hasn’t reached the playoffs for 16 years, and in getting Sabonis, the Kings have added a player they believe can help them get back sooner than later. The Pacers haven’t been in the lottery for nearly that long, but a tank-focused rebuild simply isn’t something the organization has ever set out to do. “I don’t want to see (a rebuild),” Pacers owner Herb Simon said in December. “If I don’t want to see it, the fans don’t want to see it. Why would we want to go through rebuilding when we can build on the go? That’s talent.”
