Injury update
Cardinals safety Budda Baker was placed on a stretcher and carted off the field after a hard collision with Rams running back Cam Akers in the third quarter of Monday night’s NFC wild-card playoff game.
Baker hastened in from the side at the end of an 11-yard run by Akers. Baker’s head connected with Akers’ shoulder as he tried to make the tackle. Baker wasn’t moving right after the hit as he rolled onto his back, but he eventually was able to move his arms as he was carted off the field.
“Had feeling in everything, so he’s at the hospital being examined now, but seems to be positive news that I’ve got so far,” Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said after the game.

We’ve just received the first relevant update on the condition of Arizona Cardinals star Budda Baker after he was carted off the field on Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams due to a head injury.
Cardinals SVP for Media Relations Mark Dalton has provided a critical update on Baker, who was hastened to the hospital after a scary collision with Rams running back Cam Akers

Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker was taken off the field on a stretcher after a violent collision late in the third quarter of Monday night’s NFC wild-card game against the Los Angeles Rams.
He was ruled out of the game with a concussion but did have movement and feeling in his extremities as he was carted off the field.
The Cardinals later said he was taken to the hospital for further evaluation and was alert and communicative. Coach Kliff Kingsbury, speaking after his team’s 34-11 loss, said he didn’t know if Baker was staying in the hospital overnight.
Baker hit Rams running back Cam Akers with 1:51 left in the third quarter around the Cardinals’ 5-yard-line. He lowered his head and left shoulder before hitting Akers’ knee.
Baker fell to the ground, and almost instantly Cardinals linebacker Jordan Hicks was waving to the sideline for help.
“It was just a football play,” Akers said. “It wasn’t nothing personal. I’ve got the utmost respect for Budda and that team.”
Baker, 26, named to his fourth Pro Bowl this season, had 98 tackles and three interceptions in the regular season. He is a 2017 second-round pick out of Washington.
Net Worth
Budda Baker signed a 4 year contract extension worth $59 million with the Cardinals on August 27, 2020. Baker received $33.1 million in guarantees, $22.1 million of which is fully guaranteed. The full guarantee consists of Baker’s 2020 and 2021 salaries, a $10 million signing bonus and a protected $7.1 million option bonus due in 2021. Baker’s 2020 cap charge increases by just over $1.6 million as part of the extension.

Budda Baker spent this season expecting his first child, prepared to miss a game if needed.
That turned out to be unnecessary. Four days after Baker helped the Cardinals beat the Bears in Week 12, his girlfriend, Tiffany Stanfield, gave birth to an 8-pound, 14-ounce daughter. They named her Alani.
“It’s crazy to think about,” Baker said. “For me, looking at my little girl and thinking like dang, I have a whole other human in my household. It’s definitely special.”
How much it impacts Baker on the football field is the question — the All-Pro safety couldn’t be any more focused on his game, and Baker was already mature beyond his years.
“As a man, having your first child does change you — having responsibility for someone’s life is huge,” defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said. “For me it worked in my favor; it just makes you more focused, it grows you up. You take less chances in life because you have a baby girl. So, for Budda, I think he wants to be a father, he is serious about it, and he’s happy.”
Despite all occurring in Baker’s life, he is focused on helping the Cardinals clinch their first playoff berth since 2015 with a victory over the Lions.
The Cardinals’ defense did not have an ideal overall performance on Monday, but Baker said he was proud of their effort. He thought they played hard and made plays, just not generating the big turnovers they’re accustomed to making.
