Today Bryce Mitchell scored a wire-to-wire unanimous decision victory over Edson Barbosa on the main card of UFC 272.
It was Mitchell for all three rounds as Barboza did not have the answer to his opponent’s superior wrestling advantage. After three rounds, ‘Thug Dirty’ took a 30–25, 30–26, 30–27 lead, to secure their sixth straight win under the UFC banner.
Barboza clearly had a game plan going into the fight: chopping off Mitchell’s legs with a low kick to neutralize his wrestling. However, the Brazilian giants were not able to execute.
Mitchell dropped Barboza with a huge left hand with 3:25 on the clock. The Arkansas native bolts for the takedown. Barboza tried to fight the youngster but the 27-year-old successfully ground the fight.
From there Mitchell methodically inflicted damage on his opponent. ‘Thug Dirty’ used a steady regimen of elbows to head and body punches to extend his lead on the scorecard.

Taking on one of the most dangerous strikers on the entire roster on Saturday night at Edson Barboza, Mitchell was absolutely suffocating with his wrestling and grappling strikes, which fielded the Brazilian for the better part of all three rounds. When it was over, Mitchell won a one-sided decision with a scorecard reading 30–25, 30–26 and 30–27 as he remains undefeated in the UFC.
Barboza survived an early barrage to reach the second round, but after Mitchell caught a kick he was grounded again and brought him down to the floor. Rather than advance his position, Mitchell was comfortable being in Barboza’s guard as he continued to land and pound away.
When Barboza finally attempted to break free, Mitchell took advantage by going to half-guard, opening a nasty cut on his opponent’s eye.
