Why was ejected
The fireworks began when third base umpire Angel Hernandez ruled Harper out on check strike three. It appears that Harper has traded away Pirates starter Louis L. He kept his swing intact against Ortiz and began taking off his protective gear when Hernandez called out the slugger.
Harper took off his batting helmet and attacked Hernandez while walking down the baseline. Harper pointed his finger in Hernandez’s face and manager Rob Thomson had to pull him away.
Before walking into the dugout, Harper threw his helmet into the stands and the Phillies fans gave a loud applause.

The Philadelphia Phillies superstar was ejected from Thursday night’s matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates after getting called strike three on a check-swing by third-base umpire Angel Hernandez in the third inning.
Harper approached Hernandez down the third-base line and said some friendly things and was eventually thrown out. Before going to the dugout he turned his helmet into the stands for a lucky fan to take home as a souvenir.
The lucky fan was 10-year-old Hayden Dorfman, who said Harper was his favorite player. Harper later offered to sign the helmet for him.
According to Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Thursday was Harper’s fourth ejection this season, two of them coming when he was called out on check-swing calls.
Fortunately for the Phillies, the game and Harper’s ejection will not have any major impact on the organization’s postseason prospects as they have already clinched the Wild Card berth.
