Why did move to first base
In May 2023, Harper underwent Tommy John surgery, a procedure that affected his move to first base. This strategic decision was intended to facilitate his re-entry into the world of throwing and defensive play, helping him gradually regain his form after surgery.
Cowboy boots
In the bottom of the eighth inning in Tuesday night’s Wild Card Game 1 between the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins, Harper was at first base, leading off the inning with a single. After a fly out, he brought Nick Castellanos to the plate. The Phillies had a 3–1 lead at the time, but would have liked an insurance run in the ninth inning.
Castellanos fouled out on the first pitch from left-hander Steven Ockert, but he missed the second, which was a slider down in the zone. He laced a liner over the wall in left field, and Harper took off on a dead sprint.
