How long is out for

The Phillies’ Bryce Harper has been diagnosed with a left thumb fracture after Padres starter Blake Snell’s 97 mph pitch hit his hand in the fourth inning of Saturday’s 4-2 win. He is out indefinitely. They will be further evaluated in the coming days.

Harper fell to the ground after being hit. He groaned in pain. Initially, she thought her hand or finger was broken, but X-rays revealed a fracture. He appeared to exchange some heated words with Snell as he left the field, but said both players texted after the game to clear the air.

Thumb injury

The Phillies announced late Saturday that Harper fractured his left thumb after hitting Blake Snell’s pitch.

For comparison, Giants first baseman Brandon Belt broke his left thumb after being hit by a pitch in late September 2021. According to Andrew Bagerley of The Athletic, the injury took about four weeks to heal. Belt did not participate in San Francisco’s post season, which ended in mid-October.

As Harper was halfway to the Philadelphia dugout, he angrily yelled at Snell and paced his hand at the Padres starting pitcher. Snell eventually yelled back at Harper. Several Petco Park fans began booing Harper after several seconds, with Harper yelling at Snell.

Harper then calms down and tells Snell to say “I know, I know”, admitting that the pitcher didn’t mean to hit him with the pitch.
