The Boston Bruins fired head coach Bruce Cassidy on Monday, the team announced. Cassidy spent six years coaching the Bruins. He set a 245–108–46 regular season record with Boston and went 36–37 in the playoffs.

“Today I informed Bruce Cassidy that I was making a major coaching change,” said Bruins general manager Don Sweeney. “After working with Bruce for 14 years, it was an extremely difficult decision. I want to thank and acknowledge Bruce for all of his work and success with the Bruins organization.”

The Bruins made it to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on home ice in 2019, but lost 4-1 to the St. Louis Blues. This is the only time the Bruins under Cassidy have gone past Round 2 in the playoffs.

Why was fired

You could make a strong argument that Bruce actually surpassed Cassidy. The fact that he won 51 games last season with a legitimate top-six center, too many injuries, more than 10 players suffering from COVID-19, blue line concerns and a lack of scoring depth, was indeed a remarkable addition to Cassidy. It was an achievement.

Cassidy’s lineup changes in early January, notably placing Taylor Hall, Eric Houla and David Pasternak in second line, literally saved the season. From January 1 until the end of the regular season, Boston’s third best record in the league was 37–16–3.

B lost in the first round to the league’s third-best regular season team in Game 7 on the road. The Bruins were pretty bang on that series as well. It was a disappointing end to the year, but certainly not a result worthy of being fired.

Wife

Mrs Cassidy, formerly known as Julie Ann Qaboos, was born on November 19, 1971.

Julie Cassidy and her husband moved to Boston from their home in Providence after naming her husband as assistant coach for the Bruins.

Obviously, the couple leads a very low-key life and enjoys their privacy; There really isn’t much about Mrs Cassidy that we believe is a full-time mom to her two young children. Previously a veteran lobbyist for the American Gas Association, later an executive for Motorola’s Office of Global Government Relations, she specialized in appropriation issues.
