Health:
Arians rejected the notion that health played a part in his decision. “Before you start thinking this is about my health, don’t. This is the best I have felt in many years and I’m looking forward to helping this team continue winning through my new role,” he said.
Arians did spend the latter portion of last season roaming the sidelines while nursing a partially ruptured Achilles.
Todd Bowles:
Bowles and Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich interviewed for the Jaguars’ head coaching job earlier this year, with the latter seeming like the front-runner for the position until he removed his name from consideration.
With Leftwich staying put, the Bucs can maintain the chemistry between him and Tom Brady, who chose to come out of retirement earlier this month and return to Tampa.
Who is:
Bruce Charles Arians (born October 3, 1952) is an American football executive for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL) and a former head coach.
He announced his retirement from coaching on March 30, 2022 and would be subsequently moving to the front office operations for the upcoming season. Previously, he was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2013 to 2017.
Arians was also the interim head coach of the Indianapolis Colts during the 2012 season. Outside of the NFL, he was the head football coach at Temple from 1983 to 1988. He is known for his slogan “No risk-it, no biscuit,” which encourages aggressive playcalling.
Young:
Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians roams the sideline looking like a cool jazz musician more than an NFL head coach with the Kangol hat, hipster glasses and clean beard.
But that distinct Arians look is a far cry from what he used to look like back in the day. Way back in the day.
In honor of Throwback Thursday, here are a few pictures courtesy of Virginia Tech showing us a young Bruce Arians during his playing days and early coaching days back in the 70s.
